For the Solar Terms, we just entered into Little Summer. Also known as Minor Heat, this 11th Solar Term is the season of fireflies, of heavy moisture. Clothes hanging on the lines are a common sight to prevent mildew.
Thunderstorms are frequent. It can be flood season. The lotus flower thrives in these high temperatures. From now until Double Ninth festival (9-9-21) the lotus flowers will be in full bloom. Melons and dumplings are popular, as they are light to digest when the heat can cause loss of appetite. Soak in the sun and enjoy the warm weather.
The Inner Light Moon Oracle card of the week is Kuan Yin. She is the Chinese version of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. The Jesuit missionaries named her the Goddess of Mercy. She remains on earth to help all beings find peace and Enlightenment.
In this card, Kuan Yin sits in a lotus flower, pouring water from her vase. The lotus transmutes from mud into the Buddhist flower of purity. Its roots, stems, leaves and seeds are all edible and provide nourishment. The lotus and the vase represent two of the eight auspicious symbols in Buddhism. The willow branch behind her bends but doesn’t break, indicating flexibility and yielding.
Kuan Yin's full name, Kuanshiyin, means She who hears the cries of the world . It is through listening that we come to understanding. Once the mind understands, our hearts can open. With the heart open, there is room for compassion. Even when a situation cannot be resolved, forgiveness creates space which allows for miracles.
